The Habitat Rehabilitation Programme Through Tree Planting Activities
under the Central Forest Spine (CFS) Management and Development
Project is one of the many ecosystem restoration projects implemented by
the Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia (FDPM).
Habitat conversion and infrastructure development resulted in the
increased fragmentation of the remaining forests of Peninsular Malaysia.
The loss of connectivity between forest patches has caused obstructions
in the free movement of animals and limited food resources, resulting in
human-wildlife conflict and roadkills. Habitat rehabilitation is one of the
main solutions implemented by the FDPM to ensure the establishment
of CFS ecological linkages in Peninsular Malaysia. The Master Plan for
the CFS Linkages 2010 identified 37 ecological linkages in Peninsular
Malaysia that function to reconnect the fragmented forest to serve as
habitat or roaming areas for wildlife.
